What we have learned from CBI course

Post  jiangling on Fri Oct 07, 2011 4:19 pm

The CBI course is over now, what we have learned from it? Because it's a course about some abstract concepts, if we can share what we have got from this course, it can definitely be impressed in our mind? and maybe can instruct our life sometime on day, but if we just turn over this course, then it means nothing to us.

ok, I talk first. I have learned a very simple and useful method from CBI, which is close your eye and get deep breath and thing about something to have a release of yourself. it's useful after a busy working day.

2nd I learn is you should know what you have not known, which is very important. the relations about known and unkown is a very interesting question, and we should always check what we have known and what we haven't known.

close the eyes and think about what we have done and what we will do in the future is very important. whatever how busy we are, we should leave a period of time for ourselves to think about, even just leave the brain blank.

another thing I learn is we should think about issues by multi-dimensions.maybe due to my work, sometimes I will think about things by ture or false, just one dimension. after this course I know that we should try to think it from many aspects even it is easy to say and hard to do. we will try and remember this.

3th thing I learn is one time focus on one thing. it is very useful, because we always try to speed and do two or more things at one time, conversely, the efficiency is not good as we expected.

"The question is not you don't know, the question is that you don't know that you don't know". I still remembered this wise sentence professor Ali said. The more we learned, the more we knew how many things we "don't know". Before learn, we should clearly know how much we knew, how much we don't know, and how much we don't know we know, and how much we don't know we don't know. Know ourselves, than others.

In CBI course, mainly i have learned two very important things, the first one is that we can only concentrate on one thing during one time; the second thing is that we need to spend more time on thinking.

There were too many things we have learned physically and psycologically. It's the first time we are clear about our brain, it is the first time we got a method to control our brain, and also, it is the first time, we guide our brain to think what behind the common sense we use usually.
At the end of the lecture, all the cases, the presentation, the issues are no longer important. I believe what left in our mind is to use our brain effectively, to learn for our whole life.

The key is not how to solve problem but to ask the right question.

We learn more from failure than success.
How to concentrate? How to keep ourselves peaceful.
One thing I need to mention here is Professor Ali mentioned that when Tibert monks do some kind of things related to control their brain, physically some pulse/signal can be detected by sensor. It is really fantastic.

The key point we leart from CBI is the way we think. Never think you get the final answer to a question. I realized that I might make many mistakes during the past and I might stubbornly insisted I was right. It is just like the text we learnt in the secondary high school, the blinds and the elephant. To some time, we wonder what differences between us and the blinds.

CBI and strategy---which is more important?

Michael Pprter(迈克尔.波特) is famous professor, the article “what is strategy” has been on of the most classical literature and pubnished on Harvard Business Review.
I think it is beneficial for us to compare the viewpoint of this artical and the core ideology of CBI.
Michael Pprter pointed out that, there are three key priciples underlie strategic positioning:
1, strategy is the creation of a unique and valueble position, involving a different set of activities.
2. strategy involves creating “fit” among a company’s activities.
3. strategy requires you to make trade-offs in competing- to choose what not to do.
So, my viewpoint is that, CBI can improve “Operation effectiveness” (运营效率),but can not ensure the success in strategy.
I’d like to listen to your opinions. Best regards!
