Seiko spent up to 30 years to develop mechatronic technology and finally achieved this in the technical leading position, which SWC senior manager were pretty much pound of. Then Seiko can successfully occupy the high-end watches by using their to-be-pound unique technology? Can Seiko enhance its international mage then?

That really is a problem to be considered. I was worried that if Seiko only rely on its technique to capture the market, then you may see a big lose coming. For the high end market, the traditional brand are fighting for so many years to build its brand, lots of customers are loyaler. Seiko must realize what is the key issue concerned by his target market, is it rely on the technology? I don't think so.

I really agree that technology will not be the key point to capture the high end market becasue watches will serve as a status symbol or a fashion accessory for these people. So what they care about may be the brand and the price paid for such watches. If only rely on the Spring Drive technology to sustain a long term market, it will surly not be the right way watches should not only be regared as a time piece with the improvement of the life quality. And how to upgrade its brand and the value behind its brand will be meaningful to the company's development.

looks like SEIKO management understand the way to reposition the brand: the Spring Drive technology could use as the product platform, upon that, they have 6 pillar to support the branding, high quality distribution channel, advertising and public relations to improve the brand image, product design and develop focus on what customer want. all these are what they are doing and need to strength. and they need to change those cheap product to sub-brand if necessary, and keep the brand unique and exclussivity, I believe they could success but this is a long term strategy.

it's not easy for SEIKO to emerge into high end market relying on technology. Swiss made watches has already dominated the luxury market for long time and symbol of culture/fashion.

The Spring Drive technology itself cannot help Seiko to get a bite from high-end market because consumers in this segment do not value the technology. However, the technology can bring a new value to Seiko's brand: innovation. This is sth that customers value and expect!
