Innovation by collaboration
There is an interesting article in 2011.09 of Harvard Business Review (CHN version) - Bringing Minds Together by John Abele. It was published in 2011.07 of HBR (ENG version).
A good leader should provide and manage a good platform to encourage innovation. John showed his creativity not only in product itself but also in means spreading his new idea. But the most important thing was he organized a number of external experts to contribute their ideas together.

Re: Innovation by collaboration
What you mean do lead to next step, the art of leadership. To my opinion, a good leader doesn't mean he/ she has to be very creative and innovative, but who will be some one can really inspire his staff to be creative and support them.
By the way, I don't know how many people will agree with me, but it is very hard to find these leaders in a state-owned company.
What a pity to China!

I partly agree with you. I also think a leader should be able to inpire his team members. As far as I am concerned, a good leader should be a good man first. It's a pity not to find such leaders as you like in state-owned company. But we are glad to see some outstanding entrepreneurs in Chinese private companies.
